After spending several days exploring, I chose to create an identity based on a physical landmark in Marquette, Michigan called Presque Isle. I had decided to investigate, document physical features, and search for visual clues on Presque Isle. Using this specific location as content allowed me to create a "visual identity" for this space. The area had much to offer. I discovered several visual clues after spending time hiking and researching the isle. At the local library I found the history of Presque Isle and a topographical map. I ended up developing not just a logo, but a visual language through investigation and extracting visuals from the place itself. The topographic map played a large part in the logo. The development of this restaurant started by looking into the demographics of Marquette, Michigan. This restaurant is downtown on Lake Superior on Lakeshore Boulevard and targets the middle class citizen. Blue Sky Bar and Lounge is competing with L’attitudes and The Upfront. The logotype feels elegant and clean, but also sophisticated due to the sizeable amount of tracking and the use of eurostile, a modern sans serif typeface. The horizontal line running through the letterforms represents the horizon. The color scheme of the logo, which is continuous throughout the set, emphasizes the modern feel of the restaurant and the perceived colors of the sky which is often associated with optimism. The word blue is in a grayscale tone and the word sky is a low saturation, mid brightness blue to represent the sky.
